Traffic. If you want to succeed as an affiliate marketer you need to generate traffic. You send traffic to your content and funnel it from there to the offers you promote. This is the lifeblood of affiliate marketing. Generating traffic is an essential skill for any affiliate marketer, regardless of their experience.
Product creators get the majority of their traffic through affiliates. Affiliates get traffic through their own efforts. These efforts are either paid or free.
There’s no sugarcoating this, paid traffic is faster than free. You get more traffic more quickly, and you get more data on the traffic more quickly. The alternative, free traffic, is only free in one sense as it requires time and effort instead of dollars and cents.
Free traffic can generate sales. Below are four tips for generating traffic that can be applied to any traffic generation method.
1. Find your audience and meet them there
To sell to gardeners hit up gardening forums, blogs, and subreddits. Find YouTube channels dedicated to gardening. Go to these places and figure out how to get traffic from them to your content.
2. Focus on one method
Shiny object syndrome is a euphemism for constantly shifting focus from one endeavor to the next. So many marketers shift from one traffic generation method to another. Google ads one week, Facebook the next, and free forum posting after that.Â
Video marketing requires building a channel of videos that can rank. Over time. Facebook marketing often involves participating in groups. Over time.
Don’t be mediocre in multiple methods. Pick a method to specialize in. Get solid, quality traffic from it. Then and only then leverage the profits to learn another method and expand.
3. Do not stop
You’re never truly done driving traffic, not if you want to keep making affiliate commissions anyhow. Establishing a presence takes time and effort. Imagine your efforts as a river slowly carving a path through a valley. The Grand Canyon didn’t appear in a year.
Over time your efforts will multiply themselves similar to compound interest. At first, it’ll be slow, but eventually, it’ll gain enough momentum to pull itself along.
Free or paid, keep at it. Every attempt at gaining traffic will gain both traffic and data. In some cases, the traffic gained may be negligible, or even none in the early stages, but the data is always there. LKearn from each thing you do and apply what you learn to the next thing.
4. Engagement
Social media rewards engagement. While the exact algorithms are closely guarded secrets, YouTube videos that keep people watching YouTube tend to be offered up more often than videos that push people away. This is more about free content than ads, but the principle applies. Get people to engage with your ad content and it could go viral. Get them to engage by engaging with them. Reply to comments. Like and comment on related content. You’ll have a solid audience of followers in no time.
Traffic is simple, but it’s not necessarily easy. It’s also not an unbreakable code or infinite mystery. You can learn and understand traffic generation. Once you start succeeding you’ll be in a position to magnify that success. Be consistent and growth will follow.
With these tips, you’re well on your way to generating the traffic you need.
